BackTweets indexes public posts and public links. This page says what that means for you as a visitor, and what it means for anyone whose public posts appear in a report.

Cookies, and your choice

Nothing optional is loaded until you answer the banner. Decline, or simply ignore it, and no analytics or advertising script is requested at all - not loaded-and-anonymised, not requested. The site works identically either way, and we do not ask again on every page.

If you accept, we load Google Analytics 4, which is Google's product, not ours. It sets _ga and _ga_<id> in your browser and tells us which pages are used. We use it in aggregate; we do not try to identify you, and we do not sell it.

We do not currently show ads. When we do, they will be served by Google AdSense, and the following will apply:

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to BackTweets or to other websites.
• Google's use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
• You can opt out of personalised advertising at any time in Google's Ads Settings, and out of other vendors' cookies at aboutads.info. Those are separate from the choice below and work whatever you pick here.

All of it is covered by the same choice: decline and no ad script is loaded at all, so nothing is set to opt out of.

Your answer is stored in your own browser, in localStorage, and never sent to us. We deliberately do not set a cookie to record that you declined cookies.

What the site stores

We use official APIs, open protocols, licensed search and permitted feeds. We store public post IDs and short excerpts, and honour provider deletion and edit handling. We do not sell or expose raw personal-level public data.

One endpoint costs us money per new link looked up, so we rate-limit it by IP address. Those addresses are held in the server's memory only, for the length of the rate-limit window, and are never written to our database. Beyond that, our hosting and CDN providers keep the standard request logs any website has.

A correction and removal request flow is available for indexed reports. If a page mentions you and you want it changed or taken down, ask and we will action it.
